Online therapy cost per month: cash-pay vs in-network copays
Facts checked October 15, 2026. Operated by Alpha Origin LLC. Not medical advice.
The monthly number is not the weekly headline
Platforms on this site quote therapy as a weekly rate even when the card is charged monthly. A month of cash-pay care is that weekly rate times the billing cycle, not a single office copay. Figures below were checked against each company’s public pages on October 15, 2026. Your checkout quote can differ. This page does not add a new price survey.
Four times the published weekly rate is a planning estimate of a four-week stretch. It is arithmetic, not a second price list. If the company bills every 30 days, or offers quarterly and biannual prepay, the invoice is the number in the signup flow.
Cash-pay, restated as a four-week estimate

- BetterHelp pricing page: about $70–$100 per week, which the same materials describe as roughly $280–$400 when billed monthly.
- Talkspace cash tiers on the pricing page: $69 / $99 / $109 per week. A four-week reading is $276 / $396 / $436. Talkspace bills those cash plans monthly, quarterly, or biannually — the weekly figure is not itself the charge.
- Calmerry pricing page: promotional weekly figures of about $49.50 (messaging) up to $73.75 (messaging plus four live videos), billed monthly, beside higher strikethrough list prices. A four-week reading of those promo figures is about $198 to $295. The strikethrough list is not what you should assume you will be charged; checkout is.
- Online-Therapy.com cost FAQ: ongoing Basic $60 / Standard $90 / Premium $120 per week, billed monthly, with the first month listed 20% lower ($48 / $72 / $96). A four-week reading of the ongoing rates is $240 / $360 / $480.
What an in-network copay replaces — and what it does not
BetterHelp states acceptance through 125+ plans and that many members pay $15 or less per session-equivalent, some $0. Talkspace’s pricing and insurance pages emphasize direct insurer billing and market a $0 copay for most insured members; other Talkspace pages cite average member copays around $10–$15. Those are company statements about members who are in network, not a promise for your card.
A copay is not the full cost of care if the deductible is still open. You can owe the cash-pay subscription, or the plan’s allowed amount, until the deductible is met. Run the coverage checker on the provider site and ask the insurer what you owe before the first renewal.
Calmerry and Online-Therapy.com both state they do not take insurance payments directly. You pay the cash subscription. Each will give an itemized receipt you may submit for out-of-network reimbursement. Reimbursement is your plan’s decision. A receipt is not a copay.
Match the monthly price to the product you are buying
A cheaper week can be a thinner product. Talkspace’s $69 tier and Calmerry’s messaging promo are messaging plans, not the same thing as BetterHelp’s typical one live session per week plus messaging, or Online-Therapy.com Standard (one 45-minute live session a week).
- Need the platform to bill the insurer: start with Talkspace or BetterHelp. Read whether messaging tools change on the insurance path.
- Paying cash and you will not use live video: do not buy a tier whose price is the live-session allotment. Calmerry and Talkspace both publish messaging-only options.
- Paying cash and you want a named weekly live session: compare BetterHelp’s $70–$100 week with Online-Therapy.com Standard at $90 ongoing ($72 in the published first month) and Talkspace’s $99 video tier, which describes up to four 30-minute videos a month — not one 45-minute session every week.
How to read the first charge
Online-Therapy.com publishes a 20% first-month discount, then the ongoing weekly tier. Calmerry shows promotional weekly rates next to higher list prices. BetterHelp mentions promo codes and financial aid; the ongoing cash range is still $70–$100 per week unless the quote says otherwise. Talkspace’s pricing page, on the October 15, 2026 review, did not publish a separate first-month discount table.
Write down three numbers before you subscribe: this charge, the renewal charge, and what you owe if insurance later says you were out of network. Pending coverage is not a lower price.
